FURTHER AFIELD

DOWN ON THE COAST

Just 46 mins away, Le Lavendou (left) is one of the closest and quietest coastal resorts. From Le Lavendou the coast road going East is a wonderful route, but in Summer it is very busy. Off - season though, passing through St.Tropez, Frejus, St.Raphael, Cannes, Antibes, Nice and on to Monte Carlo is like a fairytail come true. La Londe is even quieter and the closest beach (36mins) and St. Tropez is 54 mins.

In September the sea is still blue in Nice and temperatures in the mid 20's C make it one of the most comfortable times of the year.

Ten minutes drive and then ten minutes walk. Take the D75 (dir.St.Tropez) from Gonfaron. After Les Mayons, there are several possible parking places on the left but if you want the shortest walk to the lake, park in the last one. The only way to know that it's the last one, of course, is to go half a mile further on to the junction with D558, then turn around and come back.

Picnic or walk the coast paths from just West of Cavaliere. Photographed in late September.
